Melon Reigns Supreme

Of all the fruits to love, watermelon has to be the easiest for me to love at times and hate at others. It truly is insane how a delicious watermelon either by itself or with some tajin and chamoy can make me think no other fruit can compare to it. It's not even close!

But then I'll inevitably pick a not so good tasting one and then I hate all watermelons. Because I don't like to waste, then as long as it isn't spoiled, it's going down the hatch! But it's so big (because I'm a greedy eater so I choose the giant ones) that it just feels like it takes forever to finish.

In those moments is when I'll stray and find other types of melons to enjoy. One I've always hated, no matter how many times I've tried to like it, is honeydew. I don't know why, I just know that as much as I try to love it, I can't even like it. I love their smell and color, so I don't understand how something that's visually and olfactorily appealing to me just turns me off once it hits my tongue.

I've tried so hard to like it over the years! I thought that maybe I just haven't eaten "The One" that's going to make me fall in love with this pretty, little, green ball! Funny enough, I tried a golden melon one day. Not knowing what to expect, I quite enjoyed it. I found it reminiscent of a honeydew, but milder. Almost cantaloupey and I loved it!

The next time we bought one it was riper and much more similar to cantaloupe. I was hooked! This melon is like if a honeydew and a cantaloupe fucked and had a baby. So now we have to buy a few every year while they're in season! I don't know what kind of voodoo was used for this yellow orb, but it only further cements in my palate and in my mind that melon (when in season) reigns supreme over all other fruits!
